Christmas in Cowtown returns as Junior League market marks 20 years of giving back
Holiday shopping in Fort Worth has an early start, and it pays off for the community. The Christmas in Cowtown Gift Market is back at Will Rogers Memorial Center, where more than 230 vendors are set up through Sunday to help shoppers cross gifts off their lists or find something for the hard-to-please person on it, NBC 5 DFW reports.
The Junior League of Fort Worth started the market 20 years ago as a way to carry out its mission of leadership and service. Over those two decades, the league says, the market has given more than $10 million back to the community.
The league describes itself as an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through trained volunteers. According to Fort Worth Magazine, proceeds from the market go directly to local nonprofit programs and community projects across Fort Worth.
Plenty of people come. Last year's 19th annual market drew 21,750 shoppers over five days, Fort Worth Magazine reported. Merchants come from across the country, and the market offers gifts, seasonal décor, specialty foods and boutique finds. So when shoppers pick up a stocking stuffer or a holiday centerpiece, part of what they spend goes back into their own community.
